The Project

Crossing Borders for Feminist Resistance is a digital-based research project that investigates women’s movements from around the world.  The project required student engagement with both traditional research tools and other information resources including Women Watch, Global Feminisms Projects, as well as specific webpages by feminist or women’s organizations.  Working collaboratively, students chose one country or region, collected information about demographics, culture, political and economic contexts, colonial and post-colonial experiences, and challenges and achievements of the women’s movements. They evaluated the information using transnational feminist theories and methodologies introduced in the course, paying close attention to location, feminist practices, ideas of citizenship, community work, and its relationship to the nation-state and the West. In doing so, they documented the role of transnational feminisms and radical resistance in the emergence and sustainability of women’s identities.
